Internet Marketing for Older Adults

A Senior's Guide to Repurposing ContentWhen it comes to working as a solo entrepreneur in your senior years, you want to work smarter, not harder. There are so many tasks you will have to undertake as an online marketer, that whenever you can lighten your burden, it will help you achieve success faster.

One of the most time consuming tasks you will have as an online entrepreneur is in creating the content that will attract targeted niche traffic to your site, provide freebies to get them on your list, cater to their needs via email, provide you with info products to sell to them, and more.

The unfortunate truth is that most senior marketers use up most of their free time during the day on this one task. Instead of taking this approach, a better option would be to learn the art of repurposing your material.

Repurposing is not a lazy shortcut to be ashamed of, but rather a savvy content strategy that allows you to maximize the use of your knowledge in ways that will help you achieve profits faster.

Repurposing Eliminates the Need to Work Harder

When you stop and think about all of the different content pieces an online entrepreneur needs, it can get overwhelming. To start with, you need content to fill up your blog so that you can be competitive in the search engine results pages.

This is an ongoing need that requires at least three pieces, if not more, of content each week. You also need a lead magnet that you can offer to the people who visit your blog as a way to entice them to sign up to your list.

These are typically either short reports, full eBooks, or entire courses that present a no-brainer option and generally guarantee a conversion from one-time visitor to immediate sign up.

Once you have someone on your list, you then need to email them frequently so that you stay at the forefront of their mind and are able to brand your business. Some entrepreneurs email daily, while others email a few times a week.

In the emails and blog posts that you create, you may be sharing a mixture of tips and product reviews. If you are striving to be a vendor and not just an affiliate marketer, then you will also need to create info products that you can sell to people and have others promote for you.

This kind of content is usually large scale and requires more time, knowledge, and effort to produce. Let’s not forget about all of the social media posts you will need to create as you build a presence on the Internet and funnel traffic to your landing page and product offers, too.

All of this takes a heavy toll on a tired entrepreneur who has many other administrative and technological tasks to handle, not to mention the networking it requires to succeed as well.

By taking one piece of content and repurposing it in a variety of ways, you are shortening the task tremendously. Instead of having to start from scratch and brainstorm an idea, outline the important points, and craft the piece from the very beginning, you are simply turning an existing piece of content into another piece that will work for you without much additional effort.

Taking Text and Turning It Into Additional Profit Pullers

When you create a text-based piece of content, it provides an amazing blueprint for you to be able to turn it into many different pieces. Not only can you turn it into additional text elements, but you can turn it into multimedia files as well.

Let’s start with the act of taking text and turning it into additional text. If you start with a simple one page article as a blog post, you can take that and turn it into an email as well to put into your follow up system.

You don’t have to only use it in one place. This ensures that all newcomers to your list will get to read the piece, even if it is months down the line. No one is going to blast you if they stumble upon the same content in more than one area.

You can also take a snippet of that one article and post it to your social media profiles as a way to generate a discussion and engagement, or to drive traffic back to the original, longer piece of text.

If you have a series of related blog posts, you can compile those into longer pieces to use in your online marketing strategy. For example, if you are in the weight loss niche and you have published several blog posts about the keto diet, you could take each of those individual blog posts, compile them into a PDF, and use it as a lead magnet to get people onto your list.

You can also take longer pieces of work, such as a full eBook or report, and break them up into blog posts and emails without having to write new ones. Many people repurpose text-based content that they wrote themselves.

Others prefer to invest in inexpensive private label rights content that they can break up or compile and repurpose for their needs. Don’t forget that text can also be repurposed into other media formats.

If you don’t want to repurpose it into another text based element for your business needs, you can use it as a transcript for a video slide presentation, talking head video, or even a podcast episode.

Depending on what’s in the article, you can also turn it into an image – such as a motivational quote poster or an infographic that has 5 to 10 items with a quick summary that can be used on Pinterest, on a blog post, or on other social media platforms.

Repurposing Your Video Content for Increased Online Earnings

Many senior online entrepreneurs do not have an affinity for using text right out of the gate. For some, it’s a matter of not feeling skilled enough to write good content. For others, it’s merely a tedious task that they would rather avoid.

Regardless of your reason for not starting with text, you can always repurpose your video content in ways that allow you to have a multimedia approach online. Start by repurposing your video into other video elements.

Many online entrepreneurs begin with a mission of simply building up a YouTube channel. Keep in mind that YouTube can delete your account at any time without notice or reason.

You always want to have backups of your files in case you need to use them elsewhere. You can take your videos that you used on YouTube to generate traffic and build your brand and compile them into a free video-based lead magnet course that you use to build your list.

You can also use them in almost the same manner, but as a paid course instead. Put the videos into a password-protected area that only customers can access. If you want to, you can upload the video files directly to places like Facebook and other social media platforms.

You can extract clips to use on sites like TikTok as well. You can also take videos that you made and extract the audio to use on a different video. For example, if you created a talking head video, you can extract the audio file and have it play on a video using slide presentations from a template you got off of Canva to make the process much easier.

Once you have exhausted the use of your video files, including embedding them into your emails and blog posts, you can begin the process of turning the videos into other media formats.

If you have a good video editing tool, like Camtasia, you will be able to extract the audio file and use it as a podcast. There are free podcasting sites, such as anchor.fm, that will allow you to upload your audio file so they can share it virally for you on other platforms.

Video can also be used as a transcript for text-based content. There are tools you can use to transcribe the audio portion of your video into a transcription. All you have to do then is simply clean up the transcript so that it reads well for something like a blog post, email autoresponder, or social post.

If tools aren’t working for you, you can either transcribe it yourself or hire someone on a site like Fiverr or Upwork to do the job for you. Simple transcription won’t break the bank, and your content will get more mileage.

Using Image and Audio Files to Stir Up More Cash for Your Bank Account

For some senior online entrepreneurs both text and video can seem daunting. Instead of going to the effort of beginning with these media formats, they prefer to use images and audio files instead.

An audio file is very easy to create simply by clicking on a microphone icon on your computer and talking about your niche topic. Usually, these are utilized as podcast episodes.

However, you can also embed these audio files directly into your blog, and often share them as links inside your email and on social media as well. Depending on how many audio files you have, and what length they are, you may even want to compile them into a series of chapters that will work as an audiobook for you to publish on Amazon or elsewhere.

If you have an audio file from a podcast that you created, you can always turn it into a video simply by using slide templates. Or, you can have the transcription appear on the screen as the audio is played in the video.

This works almost like closed caption does. When it comes to image files, these are often things people create such as slide presentations, infographics, or motivational posters.

If you started out with these, you can always take the main ideas and turn them into videos. You can also take each one and share it on social media with a short snippet of text.

It is well known that posts on social media that have images perform better than those without them. Actually, any media format – including video, is a great addition to your text posts on platforms like Facebook.

Selling Your Content So Others Can Use It

There is one aspect of content creation that can quickly and easily ramp up your profits. While most senior online entrepreneurs create content for them to use in their own business, many have a different use in mind for it.

Whether it’s text, audio, images, or video, you can take the content that you create and sell it as private label rights for other marketers to use in their online business. Not only will they benefit from it, but you will earn profits off of your efforts and still retain a license to be able to use it in your own online business as well.

There are no rules against using your own private label rights. The only thing to be cautious about is if you take existing content that you have used and then sell it to an unsuspecting audience who believes the content is brand new.

Always make sure you inform them if you have taken used content and repurposed it into private label rights for them to now own. Many will not care about the difference, but some do, so it’s always best to be upfront and honest.

A better way to handle it is to create the content, sell it as a brand new PLR, and retain a license for you to use yourself. That way all consumers are on a level playing field. When it comes to selling content as private label rights, consumers are often happy to buy different versions of the same piece of content.

For example, you might start by writing a 25 page eBook that you can sell. In addition to the text eBook, you can record an audiobook for them to use. You can also create a slide presentation and record a video using that as well.

This gives the buyer a readymade, multi-media bundle of content that they can use in all of their online efforts. The more ways you are able to repurpose it, the more you can charge for your PLR.

For example, if you were only selling a 25 page text eBook, you might be able to sell it for $25. But if you turn that same eBook into 25 articles, five 5 page reports, an info graphic, an audiobook, a slide presentation, and a video series, you can sell it for much more.

Repurposing your content online as a senior marketer does not have to be difficult. It can help you alleviate your concerns about not being good with one media format, such as text.

It can also allow you to cater to the needs of your audience who each have individual preferences about how they like to consume information. Some people prefer to read and skim at their own pace, while others like to watch or listen to the information unfold.
